This foaming hand soap is simple to make, inexpensive, and it works great! Follow these steps to obtain your foaming soap dispenser and make your own!
I’ve made hard bar soap, liquid soap, glycerin soap and hot process soap, but foaming hand soap always eluded me. Either it was very expensive to buy, or I’d either get it too strong and it would be difficult to rinse off, or too weak and not enough foam.
I finally discovered the secret!
Foaming Hand Soap: Simple Ingredients
Of course, you’ll need soap. You can make your own liquid soap or use one of the many on the market. You can also use a chunk of hard bar soap (grated), but you’ll need to experiment with the amounts if using this.
A good, moisturizing oil is needed to soften the skin, since soap alone is drying. I use argan oil because of its superior ability to condition the skin. You could also use jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or any other liquid oil. This is also a good place to use an infused oil, such as calendula infused oil like the one from this recipe.
Water makes up a large part of this soap. I use distilled, reverse osmosis, or filtered water to be sure there is no bacteria present.
Essential oils are optional. You can use them to make an effective antibacterial soap or you can leave them out. I like grapefruit or lavender.
The last ingredient, and the secret to making great foaming hand soap, is one you would probably never think of – air! Without a cushion of air, the pump can’t make foam and the soap will just come out in a thin stream. So be sure you do not fill your soap container to the top with liquid ingredients.
Foaming Hand Soap: The Best Homemade Recipe
Author Debra Maslowski
- 20% air
- 20% liquid soap (find natural liquid castile soap here)
- 55% distilled or filtered water (find the best water filtration systems here)
- 10-20 drops essential oil (find pure, organic essential oils here)
- 1 teaspoon carrier oil (find high quality carrier oils here)
- foaming pump bottles (find them here)
Pour all of the liquid ingredients into the soap dispenser and mix well. Top with the pump, and screw it on tightly. Shake to combine ingredients. Because there are no artificial emulsifiers in this recipe, the oils will gather on the top. Shake the container before each use. (It’s still a really nice soap if you don’t remember to shake it!)
We don’t give specific ingredient amounts because it depends on your container size.
